iFLYTEK Donation Aids in Sustainable Development of Moso Bamboo

iFLYTEK has joined Jingxian County, a major moso bamboo producing area in east China’s Anhui Province, in fostering sustainable bamboo growth through a donation aimed at building roads and promoting cultivation.

The region has 27,000 hectares of various kinds of bamboos, of which 246,000 hectares are moso bamboo. The residents of Jingxian County have long used the renewable, fast-growing local resource to promote economic development and ecological protection.

Eight months after iFLYTEK’s donation, changes can already be seen in the region.

A lack of adequate local transportation has left some of the bamboo groves unattended for years. For instance, Chen Changbao, a villager who cultivates bamboo, had not been able to cut down bamboo in one of his groves for over 14 years until new roads were opened thanks to iFLYTEK’s donation. Previously it took Chen around 50 minutes to hike the narrow winding path from the foot of the mountain to his bamboo groves.

The county has chosen the Xiaokang Village where Chen lives for its pilot development programs funded by iFLYTEK’s donation. So far, eight roads totaling 5,300 meters have been built through the mountain bamboo groves, allowing locals in to easily transport bamboo poles downhill.

“With the new roads, it’s no longer difficult to deliver bamboo poles,” Chen said, and the labor costs have accordingly decreased. This year, he has hired five workers to cut down and transport bamboo to the local plant for further processing. “I worked away for several years, but now I don’t have to,” Chen said, as the new roads have increased his monthly income from bamboo to 5,000 to 6,000 yuan.

In addition to building better roads, the local government will cooperate with iFLYTEK on other programs including cleaning up the rivers, attracting investments to promote the sales of bamboo products, farm additional crops in the bamboo groves, and develop rural tourism.

iFLYTEK is grateful for the opportunity to give back to its community and support the ecological preservation of villages and rural areas. Through similar collaborations with regional governments, iFLYTEK hopes to aid more communities however they need.
