iFlyhear Connects “Silent Baristas” with the World

During China’s annual National Ear Care Day, iFLYTEK presented its smart communication product iFLYHEAR, a system that transcribes conversations to text, to a group of hearing-impaired baristas in partnership with the program “Silent Baristas”.

Hu Nan is a deaf barista in Xi’an City, who opened his Café with his partners through the charity program “Silent Baristas”.  Despite his hearing loss, he has been able to use sign language to conduct simple interactions with customers, but there are limitations to communicating this way effectively.

iFLYHEAR has been provided to the hearing-impaired community for free starting on February 1, 2022. It is compatible with mobile smart phones and wearable devices and iFLYTEK is working to further enhance the capabilities of iFLYHEAR by including features like video conference and audio book production to allow for more creative use of the system. In addition to helping with workplace communications, iFLYHEAR can transcribe and help respond to many common phone calls including delivery notices and appointment reminders.

Previously, Hu often had to seek assistance from his colleagues when interacting with customers. Now, with iFLYHEAR, he has been able to communicate independently and take on more responsibilities at work.

iFLYTEK will work to keep improving iFLYHEAR and other smart solutions to assist barrier-free communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing people with socialization, family life, and work.
